Summer Progress – New Fencing and Gates, and Other Works
Visitors to Forbes Field are now greeted by brand new fencing and gates alongside Hop’s Close, erected in late August 2023 by a contractor. This enhancement has already attracted much favourable comment in the village. But we have no intention of resting on our laurels here. We plan to improve the pedestrian access to the field by adding a short section of pathway. Otherwise the entrance will get very muddy in wet winter weather.
In parallel, we are in the process of completing a separate project that involves moving the water supply to the field from the existing water trough to a new standpipe to be positioned near the orchard. A trench for the pipe has already been dug and we expect this work to be finished later this autumn. The new water supply will save much carrying of water if we have further dry summers and the associated need to water newly planted trees. Plans are already in place to plant a further 35 trees or so at our Field Day on Saturday, 9 December 2023. Further details to be announced.
